少し行くと道端にイヌが横になって、疲れてあえいでいた。
主人は彼を飼うのにうんざりして、やめさせようと考え始めていたが、ロバは気配を感じて悪賢く立ち去り、街を目指して旅を始めた・・・音楽家になろうと思った。
農夫が飼っていたロバは、長年忠実につかえてきたが、今では年老いて仕事に向かなくなっていた。
「私の話を聞きなさい。私は、音楽家になろうと町にいくところだ。私と一緒に来ないかい。」とロバは言った。
「何をそんなにあえいでいるのかな、あなた。」とロバは尋ねた。
